I once had a dream.
A dream about me and about tomorrow.
But that dream was replaced with sorrow.
I had envisioned the Victorian house.
And you as the perfect spouse.
I had envisioned the white picket fence.
But you never loved me hence.
What was it about you that drew me in?
Made me weak, made me spin.
It was your eyes--there was passion there.
Always passion even in that sharp, cold stare.
But is there love in your gaze?
The one that leaves me lost in the maze.
The maze of unsure beginnings and dead ends.
It's a lie to say my heart mends.
Engraved in my mind is the sound of glass breaking.
Will there ever be a day I don't awake shaking?
And wondering if loving you is worth my heart aching?
I once had a dream.
And a dream is all it amounted to be.
