Favorite Quote:
"Do not go where the path may lead, go instead where there is no path and leave a trail." -Emerson

I stretched
My body
Was sore

It ached for comfort,
Familiarity.

I leaned against
My muscles
Pulling them
Towards normality

Back to what once was
My reality.

They screamed.

My mind
Lay confused

My body hummed
In frustration

And my muscles
Simply refused.

I tried to mediate;
Negotiate.

But clearly
They held disdain
Old grudges
For each other.

Cooperation was a dream,
Long forgotten

The day I decided
To return
To the harmony

I once had.

I heard this song about a man, an ex-Marine, who ran a marathon after he lost his leg. While imagining how hard it would be to achieve and prepare for that obstacle, I wrote this poem as he prepares to return to running.
