The Fort~

Walls of wool blankets and yellow sunshine

You held my hand and said

We'd be just fine

Your laugh was like starlight falling through the sky

The moment was infinite

But there's truth in a lie

The moon changed its shape as the world quickly spun

Our fort in the darkness showed what you'd become

Now the windows are closed and the stars overhead

Make patterns in make believe of words that you said

I glanced at your face in the dark and blinked twice

I held my breath as you rolled the dice

I braced myself for the coming farewell

As our walls tumbled down

And the empty fort fell

You walked away without looking back

The easiest road was the one painted black

Your eyes never saw what lay behind mine

For unfallen tears

Can turn the heart blind

Wow. I really love this poem. It has wonderful rhythm. Also you managed to create a rhyme scheme, but you didn't just use words that fit- you made the right words fit. I'm not sure if that makes much sense, but I love this poem!
