Don’t act like you understand.
Don’t feel bad for me.
Don’t try to help me.

My Dad is an alcoholic.
I’m sure you can’t say that.
So what makes you think you could understand and feel my pain?

This is my life.
This is how it was meant to be.
And do you really even feel that badly for me?

I have had therapists.
I have had best friends.
But I don’t need their pity.

I need reassurance.
From Dad.
From God.

I need to know from him that he won’t ever drink again.
I need to know from God that he is safe.
I don’t need a buttered-up lie.
I have had enough of those.

Don’t lie to me.
Don’t act like I don’t get it.
Because you know very well I do.

Don’t at like you understand.
Don’t feel bad for me.
Don’t try to help me.
