San Merci
Alone and palely loitering, that’s me
Everyone else has a friend and laughter
Busy street scents, mingling diesel, pizza
The buses, cars, people so fast they blur
Emptiness so immense it subsumes me
I feel emotionless, invisible
Each face too self-absorbed to notice me
Too busy to advise me so fragile
Elegant mannequins stare back at me
My pale reflection also observes me
Darkness discouragement pain engulf me
So dimly remembered: when I was free
Inside, a man tenderly feeds a child
Such tenderness exists: I am restored
