The John Mayer Songs
The John Mayer songs no longer
accompany
my homework typing in the
clean, sterile,
perfect,
simple,
innocent,
disgusting library;
the librarians sitting, peering over their
horn-rimmed
glasses, their long, perfectly manicured
nail polish,
chipping away on the
clickity-clackity
keyboard.
The John Mayer is fading into the
background of the
Cessilys, Lunas, Camis,
Carolines and
Noahs, Kellys and
Logans. These people who I am
somewhat
ashamed
to call my friends.
Ashamed to call the ones I spent my
entire
year
on.
Ashamed because the one
name
doesn't
belong.
So why did the John Mayer
songs
accompany my
obsession over my
friends'
crush?
Somewhere, deep
down,
I know the
answer.
But it doesn't
matter, does
it?
Because the John Mayer will
never
again
Accompany my
middle school homework typing that's
right, I'm
DONE.
