My Rose To You
A ruffled gray dress she wears
A red rose she holds in her hand
Streams of tears flow down her face
In front of him she stands
She thinks back to the time
Of their sweaty hand-holding days
& envisions his pale fingers covered in scars
carefully caressing her face
Pulling her in for a kiss,
a brief moment of bliss
A soft smile begins to show
But her eyebrows pull together
As she begins to remember, the day she let him go
A dropped bouquet of roses, in uniform he poses
with his rifle for his portrait picture
A decision she made left both hearts in much pain
She hoped he would someday forgive her
She openes her eyes, she stands as she cries
Drowning in her stream of tears
Her regret grows greater, everytime she remembers
the following loveless years
She looks back at him,
stops crying and grins
as she thinks back to the happier days
as she kissed the rose,
inhaling in with her nose
and places it on top of his grave
