No Other Tonight
I pray, I want, I think, I need
Maybe I’m just too full of greed.
A star to catch, a song to write
My broken wings aren’t ready for flight.
A home to build, a heart to fill
I feel my pulse when I am still.
Alive I am, from air I breathe
Yet all this time, I could not see
You standing there, my knight in black
You made up for the things I lack
Leaves fell from you, you were a tree
Like the maple you seemed to be.
A rose you brought to give to me;
The thorns cut my incessant plea
To keep you here, to make you stay
But before I knew it, you went away.
So now you’re gone, but I’m still here
I’m stuck in darkness, I’m full of fear
You were born to change, you had to go
Like a season, your colors hid below:
Your Christmas bed of snow and white,
Your Halloween smile gave off a fright.
Your fireworks lit my skies at night;
I’ll never see you on another tonight.
