We have a voice.
A voice to be heard,
A voice to be listened to,
A voice to be reckoned with.

We have a voice.
So don’t tell us to wait for your approval.
Don’t tell us to let the “adults handle it”.
Don’t put us down.
And don’t try to silence us,
Because we will be heard.

We have a voice,
Each and every one of us.
Each child and teenager,
Has a voice.

With that voice we have the power to unite,
To lead,
Or to follow,
As is our choice.
To change the world,
For better and for good.

Alone we are a voice,
A splash of color on a blank canvas.
Together we are a movement,
A picture painted in technicolor.

You have a voice.
Every child and teenager out there,
Hear my call.
You have a voice.
Don’t let it be silenced.
Dare to speak out and be heard.

You have a voice.
Use it.

The author's comments:
I am sick of people telling us to wait until we're grown up to say anything, or of people telling us to say something, but not supporting us when we do. It's time they heard our voice.

And that's the thing about the future. It's unknown, unknowable, but before you know it, you're there.

To say that so many teens, children, are tired of it all - the neglect, the silence - is an understatement. Truth is, we are exhausted. Pained. And whether adults, 'oh so wise,' will listen, we must speak out. Scream, yell, thrash, cry, tell the world what you can! Adults, while many of them have wisdom and sense, so do we. And they underestimate us. No, we must get in their face and tell them: we are hear. Listen. I will be silenced no longer.

I bet whoever reads this will be inspired as I am :D The strike begins now: LISTEN. Speak, and pretty soon, the world will have to listen. Amazing work.

Wow, this was really powerful!  As a feminist, I could relate to the rebellious but firm message that we will not be silenced.  At least, that's my take on a poem that can be read in so many ways.

"My role in society, or any artist's or poet's role, is to try and express what we all feel. Not to tell people how to feel. Not as a preacher, not as a leader, but as a reflection of us all."

I really enjoyed this. The first stanza kinda was what pulled me in! Good job!

Check out my poem 'Change'? Thanks if you do, I need more rates/comments!

This is so true, and I love the style. If you wanted to do more of a pattern though, I would make the stanzas generally the same length. But the way this is--really great! Five stars! (^_^)

This poem has a huge voice of its own, thats louder then any other poem I've ever read before.

Its so impressive, and i love the lines

A splash of color on a black canvas

Together we are a movement

A picture painted in technicolor"

"Write what you love, write what you care about, because sometimes, it's the easiest way to be heard."

This is like a poem style opinion article, and you've done a good job persuading me. :) Like ArgonElement said, the first stanza pulls your reader in immediately and holds their attention. I completely agree with you.

A voice to be listened to,
A voice to be reckoned with.

The very first stanza just hooks your reader and pulls them in. It's like you are forced to read the rest! Amazing concept. And I agree, we really must use our voices.

really really good, this is what I like because it shows people that poetry doesn't have to rhyme to be GOOD! I think a lot of people think that, but it's not true and this is a perfect example. :)
