Dad doesn't see much
blurred shapes, bright lights
on a good day
maybe the outline of his grown daughter

He used to read aloud to his daughter
bedtime tales. Then chapter books came
lengthy, tiny print, Ms. Rowling's “Goblet of Fire”
by the seventh chapter, their roles switched
She began to read to him

She wasn't the greatest reader
She tried
But after the first week of him falling asleep
when it was supposed to be her in that role
she kicked him out
and read alone.

The author's comments:
When I was younger, you know, those simpler times and such, I never really noticed my dads vision loss. Even when story time had come to a stop, I never looked at him any different, at least I never thought I did. Writing this helped me bring out those stifled feelings that I never would have acknowledge otherwise. I want to leave them up to your interpretation. I've edited this piece many times and it only get's worse, so I'm keeping it the way I first wrote it, with one little edit in the second stanza.
