Trust

Is a mutual thing
I trust you
And you trust me
Except it doesn’t work that way
Because you don’t feel that way
You say it’s because the world has become so dark
And you’d like to keep me sheltered
Protected
Isolated from what happens outside our little paradise
But what happens when life’s cold hands
Shove me out?
Helpless
I’ll be helpless and stuck in my little world
So I ask you
With the heart I can muster
Trust me
Trust me to have the strength- the will to
Resist harm
From the world
And from myself
Because that’s what you taught me
And because trust is a mutual thing
