Leap Off
Leap
Tarred railway timbers beneath my feet
The warm humid air fills my nose
The pier creaks and groans from the surge
I take one last breath before the morning plunge
The excitement builds, all worries fleet
My second foot leaves the deck,
The splinter embedded holds fast.
Pain is nothing, uncertainties dissolve
Invincible.
My eyes snap shut,
My stomach screams
Soon all is calm.
Laughter, the wind, the splash
I sink like a stone
Water floods my ears
I open my eyes, bubbles like glowing orbs
Kicking my feet slowly floating upward
The surface is closer the light is brighter
Gasping the air
The pain is back, shooting in my chest
