Balloon

Floating, drifting, above me,
The latex shell stretched thick,
I stare longingly at the empty azure sky,
Which taunts me with its expansive freedom.

A child’s wish,
To be up high,
Floating in the calm surreal sky,
With the light fluffy clouds.

The sky beckons me,
So I began to plot,
Almost shrieking with joy,
As I prepare my crazy ploy.

I slide the balloon up my legs.
Feeling excitement coursing through my veins,
Up to my waist,
I start to hurry,
And then I began to rise.

Up and over the ground-locked city,
I drift into the arms of the serene clouds,
As I float into nothingness.

I wrote this on my birthday, and as I looked on the balloons, I wished to be up high flying, so I wrote this poem.
