Like A Small Flame...

Like a small flame, I steady myself
It's frustrating to watch the ships with secrets
Staining floors with crooning lips of steel
Spilling over with desire for wings
That don't abound silently
Upon the waves of rolling cities.

Bright lights waiting on miracles
That turn fathomless on glance
Transparency divine in truth.

Burying an urge to drag out a whisper
With a clarifying jolt of sympathy
Electric in its denial
And demanding as a fiend
Demeaning as an antidote
Coveting for its lead.

A stranger stands on a boat
Aware of its impossible closure
Uncertain of the voyage's claim
Begging like a drowning man
To be saved from the winged minions
That steal a man's treasure
And kiss him with closed mouths.

Stop my heart from beating
The silence flickers out.

The author's comments:
I was inspired by the secrets that we as a society have every single day. The ones that ruin people, the ones that save people, the ones that pain others. And just how truth will battle lies to prove its merit. Also, a friend on drugs inspired its "sympathetic" lead.
