If flowers were measured
with the shattered nothingness

of a broken dream
then silky smooth petals would

color our hearts

If songs were numbered
by the shivering silence

of a crushed wishful thought

then haunting melodies
would resound in our souls

If blood was measured

with the silver sharp blade
of every shattered heart
then rivers of blood

would pulse through our minds

If stars were numbered

by the dull throbbing

of every broken spirit

then blistering brightness
would shadow our world

Take the silence
cower from the crystal clear reality
ignorant of the gift
of our sparkling surroundings
to hide from inner sadness
we hide from ourselves

So fall into the night
the bittersweet gift
of everlasting sleep
But before you lay your head
and surrender to
the icy grip of death

Remember
life does not shape
the untamed wilderness
of our souls
it is the choices we make
that prove and mold
our inner minds
our one true heart
Open your eyes.
How do you measure death?
