This One's For My Childhood
No one decided that
The gods of the earth should die
They just did
Magnificent horses couldn't have horns
They just don't
Powerful reptiles with fiery breath
Could not possibly exist to rule the skies
Just as tiny, winged people do not
sing to flowers to help them grow
Because science does it for them
They were no longer needed
Wanted
No one asked
For facts to dismiss mystery
Or skepticism to replace wonder
In the world around us
It just happened
And the ethereal magic left unappreciated
Has long depreciated with age
Except, maybe, what's left of the dark days
When the light of change
Was not so blinding
