The hardest thing to do is watch the one you love, love someone else.

The sun shines down on a desolate wasteland
Once beautiful stone walls, now piles of crushed rock
Lush green grass turns brittle and dies
A rainbow of flowers wilted row after row
Tall, magnificent trees, broken in the storm
Dust of the earth mere ashes on the ground
There was once a garden hidden in a secret place
Locked away in my mind, where I'd visit each day
It started as a seed, my hopeful seed of love, the day my eyes found you
As our liking grew ans slowly turned to love
So my garden grew more sacred and beloved
Suddenly harsh words spoken, albeit there still were few
Though for each one formed, a flower died for you
As time wore on few became more
Soon evil words were all I knew
Torment controlled my mind
My dreams just disappeared
I entered my garden one last time
I stood and watched as my sanctuary fell around me
Now I'm left wandering
With no escape
I've been trapped in my garden
Trapped within my mind
And though the once beautiful is now devastated
I'm better off here,
than I could ever be with you

I wrote this piece to remind myself how destructive words can be. This is about a girl who fell in love with a boy. They start off great but eventually he uses harsh words and actions to cut her down. She had once used her mind and thoughts to escape the harshness of the outside world but when she became too close to this boy his abuse destroyed her safety and invaded her mind. Now all she has left is the ruins of her former self and she can't get away from the destruction.

Thanks so much! I was really nervous to put my work out where anyone could see it, but I'm glad you like it! :)

"You can't live your life for other people. You've got to do what's right for you, even if it hurts some people you love." - Nicholas Sparks

I absolutely love this poem. The imagery you created was so vivid and relatable. Love how you used the vision of a garden and showed the evil in something beautiful. wonderful work!
