Killing Me Slowly
A friend once told me
So straightforward and boldly
That love would end up killing me slowly
Destroy me wholly,
I couldn't believe it
Didn't understand
And he couldn't show me
And I thought he was over exaggerating
Faking and berating it
Irate because it didn't work for him
And when it first struck
I thought it was a lie
How could this thing that made me
Feel so alive
Threaten me?
My identity?
And cause people to commit acts of felonies?
I didn't believe
And when I met you, it seemed
So unreal
The perfect little thing
A nice combination
Of beauty and brains
And as time progressed forward
Our relationship started heading door-ward
And out of sync
It became crazy
Because you grew lazy
And what we had was just a memory so hazy
And it struck me
How could it be
He was right
I didn't listen to my homie
When he told me
That love would end up killing me slowly
