White Flags
I feel as though we both want nothing more
than to mend the wounds from this wretched war.
The closer I get to you the more I regress
 Defenseless, open, scared.
 So I push away
The farther I am I regain composure:
Strength, knowledge, memories of prior fights.
My actions have the power to kill and destroy
But your tears have the ability to diminish my evil words
And you hug me, and for a moment we’re okay.
