Starry skies and empty hearts,
My feet not on the ground.
For you held me atop your head,
I could see you now mom, strong and dead.
I wished for this to be a dream,
I wished upon a shooting beam,
But it would not be clear to me,
For I was only three.
I grasped dad’s shoulders,
I looked for a clue,
But I only saw that face that I so barely knew.
He placed me down,
Onto the ground,
And I reached up to him.
My fragile legs, that barely knew how to walk,
Carried my small body towards the dark.
This dark was a new dark,
A dark that I did not know.
I felt inside me a lonely plea,
Which engulfed me entirely.
Her pleasant face,
Too soon to see,
Laying in that open sea.
A sea of happy memories,
From her to me.
I wish I knew you more,
But as it’s plain to see,
You left me too early,
For my tiny eyes to see.
I miss you now,
I missed you then,
I understand now what I did not then.
My feet not on the ground.
For you held me atop your head,
I could see you now mom, strong and dead.
I wished for this to be a dream,
I wished upon a shooting beam,
But it would not be clear to me,
For I was only three.
