Madame X
Milk body pouring
quietly over darkness.
Stars trapped in
Glass bottles. Orchids
drowning silently in
endless oceans. She
was meant to be beautiful.
She was meant to be beautiful.
But we who saw her posed
in such dominance and innocence
cried blasphemy. Atrocity. Damnation.
Through tears and words cut deep
into a back glistening with moon skin,
she changed to save herself. Changed
so the world would choke on disgruntled
voices, swallow their disgust, and leave
her alone to drown silently in the
shame of it all.
Unnatural. Unforgiving.
She was meant to be beautiful.
