"You must do the thing you cannot do." -Eleanor Roosevelt

Different is hard to grasp-
When everything is unique,
And snowflakes cling to windows
Smiling- at a snow white reflection

Different is hard to grasp
When the goal is flawed-
And perfect, lurks in corners
Sneaking up on Innocence

When conformity taps your shoulder
And crawls in through your ear,
Telling what you should be
Melting who you Are

Different is hard to grasp
If you turn into a puddle
Transparent- permitting others to look in,
And see nothing but themselves.

The author's comments:
I wrote this piece to express the pressure that is evident all around us, promoting us to change. I chose to use the image of snow flakes because at first, they are all unique. Eventually, though they melt and each droplet is no different than the next, this mirrors the conformity that goes on with adolescents in our society today. The last image I provide is to show the reader that once they conform, they become transparent. Merely a reflective base where other people can look into, and see themselves.
