Momma's Little Baby
Something magical happens
To every pregnant woman.
The pain they encounter,
Disappears.
Once a child is born,
Their lives change forever.
Every new Mom’s heart
Grows a million times bigger
Because they have to fit in
All their love for their baby.
Like the little moments when
You can’t help but smile
Because they’re happy;
Their first steps,
When they stumble,
The heartbreak that passes
Because you want to reach out and help,
But decide to restrain so they can learn on their own.
Or when you pray that
Their first word is “Ma-Ma”
Rather than “Da-Da.”
They sit around and play dress-up
With all your jewelry and make-up
Is scattered across her face, with your red pumps
And boa feathers draped around her little neck.
She plays with toys that amuse her and help pass the time.
And once the time passes, there’s
That moment when you realize
That your baby is growing up so fast,
And you wonder where the time went.
On their first day of school,
You feel lonely,
Because you never thought you could miss someone so much.
And you have to wait until after school,
When that bell rings, and you anticipate that hug that always makes everything better.
But that one special moment of the entire day
That EVERY Mommy waits for,
Is bedtime; when you get to cuddle them in your arms,
And read them a fairytale story that always seems to have a perfect ending;
And you get a hug and a kiss good-night, and they turn to you and say,
“I love you, Mommy.”
And you know that you can’t love anyone as much them,
Because they are the only ones that can truly melt your heart and capture all your love.
