When I Dance
I am swift like the river,
I sway like a willow in the breeze,
For just a few moments,
The outside world can not penetrate me,
With the glimmer of the costumes,
With make up as my mask,
Smiling has never been an easier task.
I leave it all on the floor,
The grudges,
The regrets,
The memories,
I let the audience see it all,
But they will never know what was the dancing and what was me.
In this beautiful state of vulnerability,
In this beautiful state of make believe,
I am finally at peace with who I am,
I am finally at ease with who I will be,
This is the greatest gift dance has given to me.
