As rain
washes away soil,
your thoughts
were washed away by their blows.

to the highest degree.

Your body
weakened, crumbled, and

And you were left
without ground upon which to stand.

But what rain takes away,
rivers deposit again.

by your sacrifice,
a thousand eyes
have been opened;
a thousand ears can now hear
the cries for rights.
By your sacrifice,
a thousand hearts have found
the strength to say,
“No more.”

by your sacrifice,
you have given me
the courage to believe.

Thank you, Matthew.

May you bring us to a world
free of hate,
free of prejudice,
free of fear.

And though the
Westboro Baptist Church
has decreed that He hates you,

may God bless you.

I agree. All these poems are just like waking up without even realizing your eyes were closed. I love this poem, and it really reaches me personally. By the way, I love the last stanza : )

Thank you! I'm kinda starved for attention, and your comment made my day. I love the second sentence; mind if I use that?

This is so beatiful. There's just something about all of the most recently submitted poems on the front page today, they are all like cold bursts of kind winter wind.
