Bird Watching

I sit on a park bench,
Watching them.
They depart as they please,
Without a care in the world.

As a unit they fly
In a v-shaped formation.
Together they travel
Without leaving one behind.

Here, on my level,
I see all the people walking.
We walk alone, or
In small groups of friends.

But where is our organized formation?
Why do we leave others behind as we soar?
As they pass over me,
Their sing songy laugh mocks us.

And I sit there,
Chained down to this bench,
I am a prisoner of my life,
My mind, and gravity.
