The Color of Us
Their army of gray
rippling and snarling
crashes at the banks of my confidence
like a stormy sea
on a thunderous summer night
My heart is ablaze
skipping and pounding
unsteadily
with the knowledge
of who
I am
and what my inner mosaic
represents
Unique is my name
never changing nor shifting
until their sneering
condescension
fractures my courage
I want to hide myself away
cowering and shivering
as the warmth,
color, flavor,
essence of myself
leaves the body
But suddenly I am restored
breathing, feeling
whole as onyx hues clash
with the ivory shades
of a colorful crescent
beaming down on the
red, yellow, and brown too
meshing
together on the great tangled loom
that is
Diversity
