"I do not agree with a word you say, but I will defend to my death your right to say it." ~Voltaire

Whether my conscious, with my bones,
Are left to rot beneath the stones,
Or plunged away to somewhere night
Somewhere where the sun’s holy light
Illuminates no skin of mine,
God, that’s just fine

Whether my soul is here to stay
And free from skin, I float away
To walk the earth with eyes like Yours
To watch the earth forevermore
If I become a ghost, I pray,
God, that’s okay

Whether I go somewhere good
The land of Yours, go there I should
Or pulled down under by my wrong
To serve in hell forever long
If that’s what’s meant to befall me,
God, let it be.

But tonight, I ask of you
Take not my life until I’m through
Until I’ve done what I must do
And make my mark on mortal men
Done something that they won’t forget
For the future’s benefit
O God, I pray, don’t take me yet!
