He hangs his head
in shame.
As I approach the kitchen table,
he feels as if maybe I disobeyed him
and his house rules.
I didn’t mean to stay out late,
but the evening caught me by surprise.
Hanging his head
to expressing his disappointment.
Clutching into the newspaper in his hand,
as angry began to consume him.
Heading toward the seat next to him,
I began to think of how to explain
the previous evening to him.
As I opened my mouth to explain,
be instead he quickly to question me,
on things like…where I was.
I told him that soon
he wouldn’t have to worry
about me ‘cause,
John proposed and we are getting married.
Approaching an understanding with my father,
I began to notice a smile on his face.
In that moment,
the house was silent
and a moment was created
