Why do I Like to Write?

Why do I like to write?
Is it because I can plant a seed of life that no one else can?
Watch it grow until it blossoms or develops into fresh fruit?
Eat it and feel proud that I had grown something so delicious?
Or give it away and watch someone else take a bite?

I can control what seed I want to plant,
where I want it,
when I it.
I can choose how much water or words I feed my seedling.
More importantly, I control how it starts.

Do I like writing because I can decide on how
and where I want my seed to grow?
With writing, I can create and destroy life with a flicker of my pen.
I’m playing God with my own creations--
giving birth to my characters.

Does directing how the story will end have anything to do with why I like writing?
Deciding on how the plant should be used?
Whether to cut the blossom and add it to a bouquet,
or to leave it be and watch it become something more.
I have reached the climax;
it’s not only the character’s decision,
it’s also mine.

Is it because I want to prove to myself how great I am that I write?
That I can help this seed become a beautiful flower?
Wanting to feel successful at something?
That way, many years from now, I can look back and say,
“I faced many storms with my silent friend
and not once did I think of quitting.”

Why do I like to write?
I like it because I have the power to
control,
decide,
and direct
the story to make it the ripest it can be.
It’s that feeling of pride when you take a bite
or share your fruit with others.
It’s accomplishing a task you longed to complete.
I like to write because I am the Creator.
It’s my world,
my reality,
my life.

Amazing. I write for all those reasons but didn't even know it. Writing is a process that takes the unknown and reveals it. You  have artfully revealed the potential of writing. thank you.

We do not write because we want to say something, we write because we have something to say. (S. Fitzgerald). Well done!
