Never Forget
We prayed; we waited
For the call that never came.
Just to hear her voice,
One last time,
Was all I’ve ever wanted.
That day, horrible it was.
I woke up knowing and feeling
That she was gone.
And never coming back.
And I went back to bed,
Crying until there were no more tears;
Until my eyes were swollen shut.
Until all I had left
Was the warmth of my bed,
And the little comfort of knowing
The date God ended a life,
Was a date God had brought a new one
Onto this Earth,
Only thirteen years ago.
Mine.
