And that's the thing about the future. It's unknown, unknowable, but before you know it, you're there.

Past, present, future.
One to leave, one to live, one to learn.
Then, now, later.
You can’t keep, you can’t haste, you can’t hide.
Rewind, play, fast forward.
You cry, then smile, and life goes on.
Beginning, middle, end.
It was your story, now it’s time to begin mine.

The author's comments:
I've always loved to sit with a mug of hot chocolate and cake (cheesy, I know ;) and ponder on my past, present, and future. Often, I used to get too hung up on the 'what ifs' of the past, so long I never got to the 'present' before I had to go to sleep. I recently realized that you can't spend your life with regrets, but you can't be reckless about the future. Just spend time thinking about the 'now'.

Thank you. And I guess I wanted to write it simple because life isn't hard. Or rather, if you think right, really think, and act the way you just know is right, then it shouldn't be too hard to figure out. And the flow of poetry. It doesn't have to be difficult to understand. It just is.

I like the sheer simplicity and brevity of this poem.
