For Savannah

April 27, 2011
We don’t know
whether we should cry
because you’re gone,
or smile and rejoice
in memory of your laughter.
Maybe we cry because
your laughter will no longer
lift our hearts, and
your smile will no longer
brighten our day.
Maybe we cry because
of those who will never know
your beauty or your love.
Maybe we cry because
all we have are memories,
all we have are pictures,
all we have are thoughts
of how we’ll miss you.
Those who knew you grieve
the loss of a friend,
of a daughter, of a sister;
those who didn’t know you grieve
the loss of a fellow student,
of a potential friend, of a potential
But we have to remember:
God wanted you beside Him so much
that He took you from us,
and your memory will live on
until we’re next to you in Heaven.
