Metamorphosis
At first you don’t see it,
It’s just a blank space.
And then you spot a shimmering sliver.
And each night more and more of it appears
Shining like the sun,
Only dimmer,
A reflection
Of the star,
Bright but blurred,
There but translucent.
And as time goes on till it looks like a smile,
It begins to get rounder,
More of a circle,
A ring in the sky.
It has finally come home
After growing up
To the place where it is fullest.
