The Flying Fish

They say it’s like a swimming bird
Or like a flying fish
It’s like a pig with wings
Or like a dead man walking
There are people all around me say,
You’re not good enough, don’t try
No matter what I do
No matter how hard I try
I always get knocked right back down
I make one final push
I try harder then I ever have before
For a moment I think I might make it
I might finally finish
Then I slow
And I fall back down to where I started
I let go and let the waves of their harsh words wash me away
I feel like the bird that can swim
Or the fish that can fly
