Seven years, seven years (we’ve grown up, we’ve grown up)
You are still the scared one (act tough, act tough)
I saw my trust dissolve when the sun hit your face
Never the right time or place
Your wings unhinged without beauty or grace
(enough, enough, enough)

Seven years, seven years (I went outside for a smoke)
All your fears, I held you near (there were feathers on the ground)
The sun lit you up, your eyes were closed
I drank you in, your eyes your nose
Withered and grey, no longer a Rose
(a pigeon, signs of fight, there had to be a body somewhere)

Seven years, seven years (we’re older, we’re older)
I wanted to take your hand (they’re colder, they’re colder)
Last year, I wouldn’t have said
The things I did, and instead
I would write until my fingers bled
(I’m bolder, I’m bolder, I’m bolder)

Seven years, seven years (I went outside for a smoke)
Contained my tears and held you dear (feathers mingled with soil)
The sun lit you up, your eyes were closed
You were silent, so it goes
I guess you’re no longer a Rose
(a pigeon, no sign of flight, the body had to be in the garden)

Seven years, seven years (we haven’t grown up)
You are still the scared one (now you can’t act tough)
I saw our lives backwards when the sun hit your face
When will it be the time or place?
Feathers from your wings, unhinged without grace
(enough, enough, enough)
