Better Than Before
Wandering, wishing, wanting, waiting
Watching for something more
I placed one foot after the other
Taking my time to ascend the all-too-familiar steps
The sun was beginning to abate as the night crept in
Life sometimes lets you wander
The best you can do is to keep moving on
Even without direction
Wandering, wishing, wanting, waiting
Watching for something more
I glanced out the window to see
The vibrant peaches and pinks
The clouds deflecting the golden light
We can wish for beauty to show up
We can find it in what we have
We can choose the light or the dark
Wandering, wishing, wanting, waiting
Watching for something more
It appeared as if someone had hung a picture in place of the window
Every sunset to perfect to be real
It was the mere beauty of it that put me in a good mood and a soothing melody in my mind
I want to find the beauty in everything around me
I know it’s somewhere there
Sometimes hidden deep
Wandering, wishing, wanting, waiting
Watching for something more
I stubbed my toe and once again remembered my task
As I got to the final step, I reached for the switch and flipped it on
The beacon shone brightly into my eyes as it came around, forcing me to squint, but only for a moment
Change never comes quickly
We must learn to wait patiently for it
As with all things worth having
Wandering, wishing, wanting, waiting,
Watching for something more
I walked to the porch and looked out at the sea
It was totally silent
Except for the gentle lapping of the water along the shore
Better things will come
If we do not watch for them
We will miss their beauty
Wandering, wishing, wanting, waiting
Watching for something more
A single drop trickled down my cheek
I wiped it away, hoping to also get rid of the thought, but I couldn’t hold it back any longer
The tears flowed down my cheeks and dripped down to my bare feet
Feelings can change
It’s sometimes best to let your mind wander
To explore new ideas and options
Wandering, wishing, wanting, waiting
Watching for something more
I looked at the sea and the rising moon once more,
Wiped my eyes
And slowly began to go back downstairs
I know it’s somewhere there
Sometimes hidden deep
The beauty of nature that I wish to find in me
Wandering, wishing, wanting, waiting
Watching for something more
I didn’t understand why
Everyone else seemed to have it so easy
Why didn’t anyone else care about anyone besides themselves
A life where people care for other people
Just because they can
This is a life I want to live
Wandering, wishing, wanting, waiting
Watching for something more
This just wasn’t working any more, I couldn’t hold it together
Nobody knew how I felt or what was going on
Nobody cared to ask a simple question filled with love
There will be a time
We will no longer have to wait for this
Love will be the most common gift
Wandering, wishing, wanting, waiting
Watching for something more
I didn’t know it then
What would happen next
Nobody knew that each night I would cry, write, and pray
There is hope and it comes from watching for the day
The day you know will be better
Better than today
