Late Night Thoughts

if blood is what ties family together
then it's an accomplishment that I haven't
just
drifted

off
away from those I love
to strangers with blood ties

if love is what ties family together
then I'm anchored firmly as a ship at sea
forever with those I love
never to be in the arms of strangers
but if love and blood tie family together
then I'm loose enough to soar
yet anchored firm enough to always return
home to family's waiting arms
home where I belong

The author's comments:
I was just up late one night thinking about things, so I grabbed a notebook and a pen and started writing. I've always struggled with the fact that I'm not blood related to any of my family, but as I wrote the last two lines, their meaning set in and I realized that it didn't matter if I was blood related or not. My family still loved me.
