Sit back and watch the starry night
follow a bat's erratic flight
the moon's reflection ripples ever
and the song of the cicadas ceases never;
a shooting star flies on past-
but, no, it cannot last;
Venus watches, but another light
in this nightscape larger than sight-
Now close your eyes
to hide the skies
sense the tranquil air
the sand's heat is still there;
Open them, the bat has flown
stars are far-off spots of the unknown-
Separate from Earth, you're trapped
hover within something less, unmapped
lose yourself in the silent grace
of the night's eternal embrace.
