Dear Daddy
Dear Daddy
I watch you walk to the plane.
Your enormous bag strapped over your shoulder.
Just yesterday I was hiding in that bag, playing our little game we play.
I watch you walk up the steps.
My eyes never leave you in the sea of suits and bags.
Just yesterday you were holding my hand and telling me everything was going to be okay.
I watch the doors close.
Tears start to form in my deep blue innocent eyes.
Just yesterday you were taking me to school, kissing me on the cheek and calling “Have a good day” out the car window.
I watch the plane fly out of sight.
Hopefully I will be reunited with you soon.
Just yesterday I was sitting in your lap as you read me a bedtime story.
I watch the plane land.
My body’s shaking with excitement
Just yesterday counting down the days till you came home.
I run to you.
Happiness flows through my veins.
Just yesterday I was worrying about you, but your familiar arms take the worry away.
