On the Other Side
On the other side
the girl wants to say
you’re beautiful.
She wants to see the smile
that your face upholds,
making her feel worthwhile.
She is your consoler
on the darkest days,
your confidant
to see you through.
It’s her duty
to feel worthwhile,
but when emotions aren’t
mutual,
when she cannot get you to see
the true you on her side,
how can she feel meaningful?
Her job would be pointless,
her goal, denied,
but when you arrive,
there she is,
on the other side of your reflection.
