The pitter patter of itty-bitty feet
courageously ascending forward
one...two...spill
up again, one...two...three...spill
persistence is key
one...two...three...on my way
on my way across the boards
I don't need your hands anymore
daddy, let me go

Gradually we stride,
toward the ample gates of my future
following Dorothy’s yellow brick road
passing doodles that decorate my direction
as we near the gate keeper
I look down, your grasping my hand
not wanting to let your baby girl go
but I don't need your hands anymore
daddy, let me go

Momentum increases
as we race down the sidewalk
legs pedaling vigorously
eagerness and equity, that's all I need
first time on my new bike
I feel your hand on my back
holding me up as I progress
but I don't need your hands anymore
daddy, let me go

Dressed to impress
tassel hovering to my right
we smile and capture memories on the lawn
time has gotten the best of our family
I’m all grown, leaving the nest
you stand to my left, hand around my waist
keeping his baby girl tight
but I don't need your hands anymore
daddy, let me go

As time flies by,
you will always pass my mind
and I’ll miss your touch
holding me as I pitter patter with Dorothy,
or as I race through life on my bike
or dressing for prosperity
I’ll realize that I yearn to be daddy's little girl again
'cause I need your hands again
daddy, please don't let go
