My Friend, Spirit
There he was, a figure of boundless energy hurtling towards me. He made the wind howl past my face giving me a breath of warm spring air.
His hair was long and coarse; black like the night and it flowed in the wind like ribbons being tangled in the air. His legs of steel ripped through the blades of grass as he continued to gallop towards me in the light of the evening.
I wondered if he’d ever get to me, for the
fields seemed to go on forever.
Finally he got to the gate, and with a last burst of energy he reared up on his back legs and let out a roaring bellow of a neigh that whistled through the mountains and made the tree’s quiver, and with all fours back on the ground he gently nudged me with his soft black face, and his beautiful eyes looked deep into my own.
I heard his heart thumping in his chest as he tapped his hooves down on the ground, and with a final nudge of the head and a loving grunt, he kicked his legs back, swished his long flowing tail and headed off into the distance.
The tree’s shook once more until my friend, Spirit was gone.
