"A man can no more diminish God's glory by refusing to worship Him than a lunatic can put out the sun by scribbling the word, 'darkness' on the walls of his cell."
--C. S. Lewis

I sit on the edge, with worry perched in my throat.
Hands clasped in pleading prayer, not losing my hope.
Once, I was far more bold.
Today I make my slow return.
My appearance runs only as deep as my skin.
Dark hair and eyes that contrast a light heart within.
On the cusp of adulthood, on the ledge of my past.
From this cliff I must jump, without looking back.
With a smile sincere, and manner at ease;
I move about truly happy,
Despite life not always being a breeze.
In all honesty,
I don't know where I'm headed.
Regardless of my human uncertainty, God guides my steps.
My faith is not blind while I make up my mind.
My hands are being held as my toes grip the edge.
Bathed in radiating love, the scars on my life vanish.
One day, there will be no room for the dark.
One day it will be banished.
Maybe I'm not a writer, or a fighter
But I have a calling all to my own.
Knowing the end is where things really begin,
Dying to my old self, letting the new me in.
Now at the cliff, I close my eyes, take a breath and release.
But in that moment I realize
Instead of falling I glide.
When I get to the ground, I know there will be peace.

This was the first poem we shared in my Creative Writing class. I'm not really certain as to the type of poem. It was more or less created for fun, but I would like to know how I can improve since my skill is still so raw. I think people wil get a glimpse of me after reading this.
