A Mid-Summer Day
Submerged underwater,
 the elated, little lad
 blows bubbles
that float to the pool’s surface.

 The sun pokes tiny needles
 onto his sister’s newly-freckled skin,
 as beaded sweat
 borders her brow line.

 Their mother hastily constructs
 her daily creation:
 ridged potato chips,
 bulging sandwiches, and juice boxes.

 Ignoring their mother’s requests,
 the children cherish
 the timeless essence
 of a mid-summer day.
