Submerged underwater,
the elated, little lad
blows bubbles
that float to the pool’s surface.

The sun pokes tiny needles
onto his sister’s newly-freckled skin,
as beaded sweat
borders her brow line.

Their mother hastily constructs
her daily creation:
ridged potato chips,
bulging sandwiches, and juice boxes.

Ignoring their mother’s requests,
the children cherish
the timeless essence
of a mid-summer day.

I wanted to fill the innocence of a summer day in this piece. My inspiration was the time on the clock: 12pm (noon).
