There it sits.
Huge and towering,
its shadow swallowing the house next door.




Underneath lays green grass
mowed to perfection.

The house is plastered in deep red bricks
and complimented with royal blue shutters.
Smoke swirls out of the chimney showing occupancy,
but the garage is sealed shut.
Always.

Tangerine and yellow flowers rest against the porch.
They are manicured to a crisp,
as if small scissors were used to trim each steam
and spray painted to keep their color year round.
No welcome mat spreads across the front step.

Nothing
is ever out of place.

The house continues to match perfection on the outside,
but a mystery lies behind

those two closed doors.
