Young and Beautiful
They are out every weekend,
manicuring lawns to perfection.
Cutting grass. Installing borders
between lawn and flower bed.
Weeding before bad sprouts emerge.
Putting in foreign plants.
Native ones just aren’t good enough.
And when they go inside
they manicure themselves to perfection.
Starving.
Dieting.
Surgeries to be thinner
thinner
thinner.
And just as lawns and beds are divided,
so are the eyes and lips from the skin.
Hair trimmed like grass.
And they think when they die,
hair fried and body worn,
at least they were
young and beautiful.
