Where I Am From
I am from first base
From Nike gloves and artistic dreams
I am from the white siding streets
From the hard rough apples red
And deliciously sweet
I am from the beautiful lilac
Bushes behind my bedroom window
From the rose red tomatoes in my garden
I’m from a field of dreams
And a blue eyed grandmother named Wanda
And a grandfather named Ray
I’m from a Christian family
With deep spiritual roots
I’m from the West Virginia
Mountains and across the ocean blue
I’m from fish ‘n chips
And shepherds pie
From a Skeen infantry master
Who earned the purple heart in world war two
I’m from a well drilling Texas roughneck who
Loved his family to
This is where I am from
And this will always be my home
No matter what happens
I will always be from across the ocean blue
