Musings of a Chinese Immigrant
Close your eyes
and release my hand
Though they say a
house divided cannot stand.
And yet my heart
has split in two
between glimmering gold stars
and red, white, blue.
Here I’m a stranger
with nothing and no one
I should have sunk with my people
but somehow dawn has begun.
I don’t know how I got here
or why
Yet I see the sun rising
and it’s never been this bright.
