Two of Us, but Never We
I truly see you when others can’t
I can read you like a book
I know the things you don’t tell me
Almost everything in just one look
We stay up late ‘til one or two
Talking about life and dreams
We are best friends who need each other
And we make the best of teams
But beneath the surface is there something more?
Something we can never say?
Sometimes I wonder if there is
Though things must stay this way
I love you but “we” would never work
And it wouldn’t be right or fair
It would jeopardize what we already have
Trashing it, as if we didn’t care
So as we’re talking late tonight
And you begin to speak of destiny
I am silently screaming inside my head
No - you’re not the one for me.
